why we cruise
19 September 2015
this one's a little hard to write. We were two days in Waterford, a delightful little town at the end of the Erie Canal.
We saw a quirky little boat along
the way and commented abou its odd construction. The dog house covered the entire deck and had windows that looked like they came from home depot. Also on deck was a folded bicycle deflated raft outboard motor fuel jugs, etc.
Being kind, this is not the most beautiful but I've ever seen.
Moonspell caught up with us in Waterford an approach the dock in front of uproar. I hopped down to catch his dock lines and met Paul, the captain.
I asked what kind of boat it was and Paul said it's one of a kind I built it myself. We talked about our trips and where we were headed he was also headed to the Bahamas.
Paul went on to explain between puffs on his cigarette that he had terminal cancer and he and his 16 year old Jack Russell terrier we're headed on south until the end. Paul said he was tired of doctors and hospitals and thought his first breath of salt air would be the best medicine.
I'm not sure what more I can say except God bless Paul.
