Cambridge, MD, another festival in town
30 October 2015
It has been awhile since the last blogs. No specific reason but we have been busy. It is hard to explain how we can be busy when we are just cruising around on Uproar. Activities we take for granted at home take more time on a boat. They are not necessarily more difficult but take more time.
Sophie needs shore leave a few times a day. That entails a dinghy ride and nice walk. I truly enjoy these adventures with my doggie! She has learned to use the grating behind the wheel which is easily washed out. But it is nice to go for those morning walks. I almost always meet people along the way.
Buying groceries is also an adventure. We are in Cambridge, MD, Chesapeake Bay. Yesterday we were told there was a small grocery store down the street. The coffee shop owner said, “Don't expect much for fresh vegetables.” They didn't have a lot of variety but what they had was very nice and cheap. The store was right out of the 50's and charming.
I don't mind walking for almost anything these days. Lugging a gas can for the dinghy or propane tank is just part of cruising life and good exercise. Hunting for a sports bar to watch Packer games is challenging and mostly rewarding. But we missed the game last Sunday because no place in Oxford, MD had NFL Package on cable tv. The Pack won without us. We did listen to the forth quarter on Whisper's internet radio connection.
Uproar is currently in Cambridge, MD. We lucked into another festival weekend. This one was a Schooner festival. There were about 20 schooners and old wooden sailboats. They also had a craft fair and food. We talked with quite a few boat owners and heard great stories about their boats. One boat was started 40 years ago and just finished this year. It was a stunning 50 foot sloop with only 10 foot of beam. It just glowed! The owner was telling us he is inventing a hand powered watercraft that will hydroplane! I'll keep watching Popular Mechanics for this new water toy.
I finished installing the SSB/Ham radio. Not sure it is working properly but will keep at it.
I will go back and post some earlier highlights of the Chesapeake. It continues to be a great place to cruise.
