Full Moon Grenada
16 September 2016
Benji Bay hosted the full moon party tonight. We had never been there before so we left our spot at Secret Cove Marina just before sunset. Benji Bay, Grenada, is just a little flat spot on land with a few Optis for kids to sail and a shed building fantastic catamarans. They set up a bar and barbeque for the occasion. Four bands were on the docket for entertainment. Lisa and I found a space at the dinghy dock and joined the fun. Rib dinner was about $7.50 and fed the both of us well. Our table was graciously invaded by French Canadians. We enjoyed sharing fresh water cruising stories. One even bought me a rum drink. That's one for the record books!
The instant bond of cruisers settled upon us like superglue. All had stories to tell and listen. I have learned to relish my role as listener. That's a revelation for me. I have been accused of more talk than listen.
Lisa and I didn't last through the entire four bands. We snuck away in our dinghy and untangled the web of dinghy painters with the help of a teenager with a white painted face. Ah, it is a full moon! We motored into the middle of Calvigny Bay and shut the engine off. Drifting under the full moon and extolling on the beauty of our cruising life trumped our return to the mother ship. Not surprisingly, the two dinghies who came near us stopped and asked if we were OK. I replied, "Just enjoying the full moon." They motored onward, understanding full well.
I held Lisa close and told her we could never have imagined it would be like this.
I'm listening.
