NYC to Orient NY

An amazing day of sailing today. Starting at the Statue of Liberty up the East River through the city. We reached the along Island sound with 10-20 knots of breeze south. Boat speed was 8-15 knots making the 80 miles up the sound exciting. Beautiful seaside homes and scenery.

New York Here we are!!

Left Atlantic City early morning and had excellent wind out of the south at 10-15 knots. We covered 93 miles in 11 hours top speed was 16.6 knots. Fun sailing and glad to be in NYC. We blew up the spinnaker halyard and shrimped the code zero 18 miles from the city. Came in with the blast reacher doing 9-14 knots. Spotty fog but great to get ihete before dark.

Foggy motor sailing

Two days of mostly motoring with some sailing. Lots of fog with less than 200 yards visibility. Rather chilly and wet the wind chill was in the 50’s. Burr!!!

Seas are building

15 May 2019
The spinnaker has been up almost two days and we continue with our downwind run. The wind remains around 20 knots but the seas have grown larger to 10-12 feet. Our speed is somewhat less. We scream down some of the large waves hitting 14-15 knots but speed is lost trying to climb the next swell. The temperature is dropping (70-75) now that we are at the same latitude as the central coast of California.

I am taking advantage of this opportunity to do a little reading and listening to audio books. I started listening to Josh Slocums “Around the World Alone”. Going download more when we get to Wi-Fi.

Weather has been cooperating well with the wind backing we are working ourselves north slowly to go over the pending high that is to the east of us. With any luck we will carry the chute for another 500 miles.
