Update

15 February 2011 | At Sea
i everybody,

It's almost sunset. We've got 200 miles done since leaving Los Muertos. There's 110 miles to go to La Cruz. It's been a great trip, a little bumpy at the beginning, but it's nice and calm now. Following seas, about three feet tall. Unfortunately, this means that we are motoring. We have our sails up to help stabilize the boat and they are adding a bit to our speed.

Yesterday morning a little after leaving Muertos we had a hefty bite on the fishing pole. All of a sudden the clicker on the reel was screaming and the pole was really bent. Jeff grabbed hold, tightened the drag and tried to slow the fish down. All to no avail. The fish took all the line off the reel in about 30 seconds. At one point Jeff was hanging on to the pole for dear life. The line was completely off the reel and down to the knot. He was leaning over the stern rail and screaming for a knife to cut the line when suddenly the line broke. We never did see the fish. He took our new $300 peso lure, the leader and all the swivels. He almost got Jeff too!

If we maintain the speed we are going we should be into La Cruz before noon tomorrow. (Linde, we'd LOVE to have dinner!) So far we are both well rested and feeling good. We are just at the top of the Tres Maria's and will make our course correction turning toward Punta Mita within an hour or so.

Love to all,
Jeff & Janie
