A little delay
05 December 2011 | San Carlos, MX
A slight delay in moving aboard. We've postponed until Thursday. Our canvas dodger is at the shop getting seams re-stitched. When we went to put it up, the zipper was broken and some of the seams were ripping out. So that has us on hold until tomorrow. We hope the weather will be good next week. It is 75 miles to the other side of the Sea of Cortez. That takes us about 12 to 14 hours to sail or motor. Generally we leave here late afternoon or very early in the morning before sunrise to arrive during daylight hours. We get good three day weather forecasts so feel confident that we will not get surprised by the weather before we take off for the other side. Generally this time of year the bad weather lasts two, sometimes three, and if it's a really big storm four or five days. Then we have a few days of settled weather with managable seas. We try to move on the second nice day to give the seas a day to come down after a blow.
We don't have a tree or any Christmas decorations. But the Mexicans love Christmas and the radio is full of Christmas carols and when we shop at the big markets, we about get blasted out of our shoes by the LOUD music blaring throughout the stores. Lots of really fast, really noisy, Chipmunks type Christmas music.
The weather here is getting a bit chilly for us. Actually have to turn on the heat at night. It's getting down to the low 50's. But an hour after sunrise it's better. Into the high 60's and by late afternoon we are nudging 70 if not slightly higher. We hear it's in the 80's further south in Puerta Vallarta. So we need to get moving.
All our best,
J&J
