A lovely town
13 April 2008 | La Paz, MX
We arrived in La Paz last Tuesday after a 48 hour motor trip. The sea was glassy calm and we didn't have much wind. In fact, we took the mainsail cover off, but never raised the sail. It was like motoring on a flat calm lake.
We had planned to stop in Altata for a couple of days, but when we arrived at the entrance it was cloaked in fog. We quickly plotted a new course and headed for La Paz. Once we broke out of the fog, the sky was blue, and the sun was shining. We took turns sleeping, changing watch every six or seven hours, read our books and enjoyed the ride. At night the moon set early, and the stars were brilliant. Jeff was visited by a pod of dolphin and their glowing bodies were kind of spooky as they chased their prey.
We are docked in Marina de La Paz. It's a great marina right in the middle of town and very friendly to cruisers. By chance, the La Paz Bay Fest was this weekend and there were seminars, tournaments, a blindfold dinghy race, music, dancing, and of course, lots of food. Lots of fun!
We'll be here until the 17th, then begin our trip north through the islands to San Carlos. We'll have just a month, and I'm sure it will go by in a flash. The water is a beautiful, clear blue and we'll be doing a lot of snorkeling. I had a full body licra suit made while I as in Mazatlan to ward off the jelly fish! We're excited!
Tomorrow we'll find the grocery store and lug the outboard gas jerry can to the gas station. Hopefully we'll get going early because it is getting really hot here now. Then it will be time to do laundry again and get ready to leave on Thursday. I'll take the camera with us tomorrow and try to get some pictures to share.
