THE END!

Well we are sad to say that we have landed back in Melbourne and are no longer sailing boo hoo! Its great to see all our friends again but we often let our thoughts drift back to the deep blue seas, the white beaches, friendly dolphins and that stress free life. We left the boat in Mooloolaba up for [...]

Mackay to Mooloolaba

We made our way down from Port Bundaberg to Kingfisher Bay at the beginning of the Great Sandy Strait. We all like Kingfisher Bay as the resort there is very welcoming of Yachties and we can use their facilities which include a swimming pool, showers, bins, cafe etc. The weather was great and we spent [...]

Queensland Weather

OK enoughs enough - I was under the impression that Queensland's moto was 'Beautiful one day, perfect the next' I want everyone to know that that is rubbish! It should be changed to 'Blustery windy one day and pissing down with rain the next'. After being stuck in MacKay for a week with rain and strong [...]

Leaving the Whitsundays

We didn't end up leaving Airlie Beach for another week which was ok because we got to watch the Grand Final - Vince goes for Collingwood and we didn't want to miss it. So our goodbye drinks at Cid Harbour the week earlier was a good excuse for a party because we saw everyone again when they came in [...]

Whitsunday Islands

Well we are still here in the Whitsundays, but about to turn around and head home. Vince is doing some work for a few days so we are in the marina and then we will get the boat ready for our return journey. The whole boat could do with a good clean!

SYDNEY!! Woohoo

Emma
Well we finally made it to Sydney after three weeks of pretty bad weather. The last two days though and the whole time we have been in Sydney it has been sunny every day. It makes such a difference to have sunny weather on a boat! It was 22 degrees today which was a fantastic.
We stayed at Port Hacking (Cronulla beach) the night before arriving in Sydney. We had some engine trouble and didn't want to risk going into Sydney at night with no engine! Port hacking is four hours from Sydney so we set off early so that we would arrive in Sydney with plenty of day light left to enjoy sailing around the harbour. The weather was perfect and the sailing exhilarating 20 knots, wind behind and we were surfing the waves. Got to Sydney in three hours.
Sailing into Sydney was pretty special. It is a busy bustling harbour with ferries, speed boats, yachts, kyakers, and catamarans all trying to dodge each other. We didn't have a reliable engine so tacked up and down which was good because we were going pretty slow and could take in the sights. We sailed past the opera house and under the bridge which was pretty awesome. We stayed at Ruschcutters Bay at the cruising yacht club which is the home of the Sydney to Hobart yacht race. Rushcutters Bay is very close to Kings Cross. We got cleaned up and hit the town in something different than jeans and had lots to drink and eat. Sydney is not cheap and I reckon we blew a weeks budget in one night! Still its a mile stone and was worth it. Fulvio, Vince's cousin, who visited us in Kiama also came to Sydney. He stayed for a couple of nights which was good. We did lots of sight seeing, got the engine fixed, lots more to eat and drink (more budget gone!) and had a pretty good time. I like Sydney it is such a happening place. We went to Darling Harbour and saw where they are having the FIFA Fan Fest where they play every game in the world cup live. It was packed. Since Fulvio was staying and could mind the kids, Vince and I were going to get up at 4.00 am and watch Australia and Germany live in Darling Harbour - however, we are not good at getting up and it didn't happen!! We are going to Pittwater tomorrow to visit the previous owners of the boat. Its about 20 miles north of Sydney. More photos of Sydney will follow soon.
