Headed South Key Largo

Coconut Grove-Key Largo
June 11,2021

Left the mooring field about 0730 to go into a slip for water and a pump-out before we head south. As usual getting into a slip was hellish with us getting turned sideways in the slip.

After that fiasco we were off with light winds and calm seas. Enough wind across the deck to keep us cool. Miles and miles of flat water and small islands.

As we approached Key Largo, we noticed several large boats overturned near the shore and wondered was this still a left over from Hurricane Irma.

We anchored for the night just off of Key Largo in Sexton Cove. We wondered why we were the only ones anchored in the shallow open bay. We found our answer after sunset when the music blaring from a bar on shore could be heard through the open hatches and ports. As the night progressed, the small runabouts came flying through the area like we were on a freeway. The. The mosquitos found and the air stopped moving….everything got better about 0230 when it cooled down and the mosquitos and boats quit buzzing.
