01 March 2016 | Driscolls Mission Bay 1500 Quivira Way, San Diego, Ca

Replacing Yanmar 3HM35F Motor

Rick / Gone With The Wind
Got the new motor from Al Holzer from Schooner Bay Marina, Bayfield, WI 54814. Well a fully refurbished motor. Looks and runs great. Nice to have it in finally. This was the right way to go. Had we gone to the Perkins or Westerbeke I think to many other modification would be needed. This slipped right in. Matching perfectly with the existing motor mounts.

Now we are on to patching the sails and getting the new instrumentation in. Slowly getting this sinker back on the open sea. We've got all the leaks done and new wiring and bilge pumps.

When we hauled out to install the motor we got new modules installed for depth temp and speed. As well bottom paint and got the survey done. All is coming together.

Looking forward to see how she sails. Gone With The Wind

Moving on to the next

01 June 2015 | Seaforth Marina
Rick / Clear with some lingering June gloom
We sold Negotiator and bought a Hunter 36 Vision. For fun we will experiment with this boat and see where it went south on sales. It seems a logical change but no rigging make sailors nervous. Even me. What do you hang on to when its rough/ Do you adapt and lean in. We shall see what this boat ( Gone With The Wind) Can do.

This sinker needs some work. We'll get her up and running or tacking in no time.

Get Ready for some sailing

Rick / Warming up
The weather is changing. We ahve spent many cold nights on the Negotiator but we are ready for the warn breezes of San Diego and get back to cruising around and get back to Catalina.

Looking forward to swinging on a ball for a couple months this summer. And do some easy sailing in San Diego Bay. I'm not fimilar to traffic sailing so it should be interesting. Always sail in open waters.

Heading to Gloriette Bay San Diego

27 May 2012 | 32 40"43.45" N 117 10"07.69" W
Rick / Clear windy / 15 plus knot wind
We had a great sail down to San Diego Bay from Mission Bay. Good wind but seas were rough with a mixed swell. But Ok that is part of the fun. We got anchored off the golf coarse on the south side. Trip length was 3.5 hours Typical anchor drop for us. Wind was howling and we pulled anchor twice finally set good but double anchored to be sure. Also added some snubbing to get better chain angle. Hey I wanted to have my wine and relax. And watch the other boats drift by. Nice boat parade. Ha Ha. Another learning experience. This is a great anchor spot with beautiful views of the Hotel Del Coronado and the harbor. Bring a dingy or some tender really need to go a shore and check Coronado out.

Sailing Fathers Day Race

19 June 2011 | San Diego, CA
Rick / Fair
Good winds at the the race this year. Had about twenty plus boats. We had about a crew of ten but didn't effect the speed much. We had numerous mistakes this year as we slipped from third to fifth after the third tack. We made bad mistakes with position and up wind speed. The captain needed to be flogged !!.
Oh well next year.

Vessel Make/Model: 36 Hunter Vision
Hailing Port: San Diego, CA USA

About:
Mary is always ready for an adventure I throw at her. As we try this we will enjoy every trip we can do. My bother Russ is the experience. He is the one with all the knowledge that keeps the right perspective to keep the even keel we need. [...]
Extra: I want to get a good trip put together as we learn the cruising in and outs on the West Coast. Give us some idea's when you get a chance. Hopefully Mexico and further north of San Diego / Los Angeles are soon on the Horizon.
