Planning for the NY canals
18 April 2014
Tom
Another project that Jasper and I worked on was the construction of saw horses for the Masts. The quickest way from Lake Ontario to the Atlantic is by way of the Erie canal system in upstate NY that connects with the Hudson river. Originally built for barge traffic, all the bridge heights are low, so the only way a sail boat can transit the canals is with the masts down lying on stands or "Saw Horses" on top of the boat.
