Zombie Town

26 January 2015 | Lee Stocking Cay, Exuma
Tom
After leaving George Town we headed north to to the Lee Stocking Cay area. This was the site of the now abandoned Caribbean Marine research center. The site must have been quite something in its heyday. There are cottages/ homes, ofices, a airport, power plant, a decompression chamber and RO water factory. All of which is now slowly rotting away. As you walk through the area you can't help but feel that the walking dead was filmed here. Its very weird but cool and interesting at the same time. The beaches in this area are fantastic and the snorkeling and fishing couldn't be better. its also a nice protected anchorage.
We traveled with 3 other kid boats so everyday was fun and busy for Eva. We socialized lots, had a little party on shore, did maintenance on our boats and of course went hunting for lobsters.
We had one incredible morning on the water with calm seas for the past 48 hrs the water visibility was perfect. you could easily see 50 or 80 feet. I caught myself diving down to depths I normally would never attempt because my target seemed so close when in fact they were 50 ft down. We also had another 3 shark day. Lemon shark, black tip and bull shark all in the same morning. They all kept there distance which was good but fun to be able to watch them swim around us as we hung of the sides of the dingy's.
We also caught 14 lobsters, split between 4 boats made for a wonderful feast.
