Whale!.. What?
01 February 2015 | Elizabeth Cay, Exuma
Tom

Cedar and Trevor made it safely to the Exuma's on fri and we are very excited to have the aboard.
Day 1 was supposed to be a surfing excussion near Elizabeth Cay that turned into an epic adventure at least for Trevor, Ted and Myself. We head out through the cut in to the ocean with plans to to surf but spotted what turned out to be Humpback whales breaching just off shore. We motored out through big waves and decided getting closer was a bad idea. We were still 3-400 meters away and these things looked massive. They jumped and breached many times and we watched massive tails smashing the surface. As we headed back towards shore the conditions deteriorated rapidly as a storm came in. Big waves and washing machine like conditions made surfing impossible.
Tracy managed to capture the above picture from the shore. In the picture its hard to see but check out the photo again in the gallery and hopefully you'll be able to enlarge it enough to make out the whale. I was headed to pick up Ted and Trevor from the surf and didn't even see the whale. The sea life here is astonishing, just after picking the guys up and safely navigating back to shore we all watched a 5 ft reef shark swim casually past us not 5 feet from shore.
Tracy's parents arrive tomorrow!! Talk about a busy weekend.
So nice to have family around! It's been along time and we are loving it!
