23 February 2015 | George Town, Great Exuma
My Mom, Elaine, arrived for a visit, just ahead of some bad weather here in the GTA (George Town Area). Big winds had us pinned in the harbour for the entire week she was here. We did our best to show her the sights. Lots of hiking, beach combing and afternoons at the Chat and Chill, local institution on Stocking Island beside volleyball beach. The waves were too big for Boogie boarding but we did get in some snorkeling at one of the near by Blue Holes.
The annual cruisers week regatta started while Mom was here so there where lots of activities and people around. It was announced a couple days ago that there where 322 boats at anchor in the harbour.
It was a great visit! And like always over way to fast.
We are currently all packed up. Sheila's prepped for the open ocean. We leave in the morning for Conception Cay. A remote island that is part of the Bahamas National Trust (It's a Park). The sea life is reported as spectacular and there are a couple shallow water shipwrecks to explore. So we will be out of contact for a few days. We are traveling with other boats for safety so please don't be concerned.
The trip there and back takes us through the same area where The Mahi fishing was so good. It should be fun!
One last thing, the weather did impact Mom's visit to some detriment. Ma and I were expecting to attend an ARG (Alcohol research Group) meeting but it was canceled due to inclement weather. So we did some research of our own. Don't worry Ma I pass along what we learned.
