Back to Conception Island
11 March 2015 | Emerald Marina
Conception Island was as wonderful as the first time we visited it.
We slowed things down this visit and spent our days lounging on the beach, boogie boarding, and trying to surf. The main beach in front of the anchorage is beautiful. Perfect pink/white sand and crystal clear water, add in a gentle dep ocean swell that created a surf-able wave and everyone was happy. Tracy and I tried but turns out Eva is the surfer. She got up on the board twice bailed a couple times and got worked more than once but was always ready for more. wow she has come along way as far as the water is concerned.
The other highlight was spending a day with a turtle research group, catching and tagging green sea turtles. The ones we were after are small about 3-5 years old very quick and feisty. The day found us catching 15 turtles. We all took turns holding them and assisting with measuring, weighing and tagging etc. If the turtle was a newby ( untagged) you got to name it as well. Mine got named curly ( ask Eva) Hers was named flower. She held this little fellow for quite some time ans all was well until the naming part, then the little S$%t turned and bit her finger and wouldn't let go until one of the researchers poked it in the eye.
Apparently this happens from time to time. Eva is fine and has a great story which she is happy to tell so we've since noticed. The turtle is fine also and swam off no harm done.
The weather drove us away from this wonderful place and in fact turned us north.
We have officially begun our trip home. It will take many months but we are indeed north bound. Currently we are in emerald bay marina for 3 nights waiting for my sister Kara and her friend Alenia to join us for a week as we sail north.
All is well and we are enjoying being on a dock for the first time since Dec. 8
Next plan is north through the southern Exumas to Staniel Cay, then We're not sure except it will be North.
