Vessel Name: | Twocan |
Vessel Make/Model: | Pearson 36-2 |
Hailing Port: | Sandusky, Ohio |
Crew: | Brenda |
About: | Brenda has been sailing for over 30 years, fights heroically against sea sickness and keeps everyone hydrated and well fed. Her gift is hospitality and she never saw a baby she didn't love. |
Extra: | The name Twocan came from our passion for encouraging couples. Ecclesiastes 4:12 talks of the triple braided cord that the toucans are pulling on in our logo. Two of the cords represent Brenda and I and the third cord represents our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. |
80 mile days, winds over 30 mph, waves more than 8 feet, weather reports that have little to do with reality, heavy rain, star light sails it is all good. The best sailing we have experienced is right here on Lake Erie. Brenda did real well even when a couple waves sent water over her head. We even had several opportunities to don the rain gear
Brenda had a tough time on Tuesday. Interestingly she was ready to roll at midnight this morning. We departed the Dunkirk municiple marina at 0045. The wind was south at 14 to16 knots. We saw two very bright falling stars. The moon came up about 3:30 and the constellations seemed to be racing us to Erie. Brenda was comfortable and even slept in the cockpit for about three hours. Twocan was at the Erie Yacht Club fuel dock at 0745.
Spent the last few days waiting for an opportunity to step our mast. Had a great time waiting as we traveled back to Tracy Creek with "the young cousin". Got to see my mom, my sister, my aunt and another cousin etc. Buffalo is having several tall ships in the harbor today where we were docked last night. They were also going to have a war of 1812 reenactment, so it should be interesting. An 1812 flag was already flying. The trip today started nice but after two hours the wind intensified and changed direction so the wind and waves were right on our nose. Brenda was not impressed.
Looks like we will be in one spot for a couple days waiting for the wind to settle down. It wouldn't be good to attempt to thread the mast through the cabin top with 35knot gusts. One of my cousins travelled with us from N Tonawanda to Buffalo. She made the tail end of a long day go much better. Her husband met us at the marina and we went to Outback for dinner. We are so spoilled. Hope the weather really is bad on Saturday so we can go to church with them on Sunday. The picture is a tomato or a strawberry or an apple or perhaps a squatly pepper.
I hope a picture from Oneida Lake will load up from my Droid. To me it is a great reminder. On board I can get so involved with piloting that I don't look back and see the consistency of my course. In life I can get so wrapped up with goals and schedules that I don't look back over my life. When I do contemplate the life path I have traveled Gods plan to is often evident. I would encourage you to take some timea to think about His great plan for your life.
Started out early this morning from a great ovrenite anchorage. Within the first hour we saw at least a dozen bald eagles soaring or just watching us from the trees!! Must have been the perfect time and weather for them. Awesome... After a couple of hours we came up on Albany and it was nearing lunch so we docked for a couple of hours. Grabbed a subway/Starbucks and walked around town. The pedestrian walkway seemed rather new (2002) and actually many people were taking advantage of it on their noonhour which was good to see. Onto the first of 35 locks in Troy and holding over in Waterford for a couple of days.
