Pickles and my water maker
18 September 2017 | Last day anchored in Swan Creek
Drizzle in the morning. Sun later
Last day anchored at Swan Creek. This afternoon there was actual wind where I wondered if the anchor would hold. Of course it does, but after being calm so much, one is not used to wind and the boat tugging on the anchor rode. Now it is dead calm again. Later tonight the wind will be back.
Not much was done on Paradise Hunter today. They may get golf cart batteries and increase the capacity of their house batteries. It seems it would take too long here to get solar installed, so that might become a Florida project. They learned to turn off their inverter when running on batteries alone. They are also switching to LED bulbs where possible. So by increasing their battery capacity and reducing their power draw, they should end up better balanced. The Honda generator is also an important part of their power equation. As for me, my solar panels are working out very well. This morning was cloudy and drizzly, but there was enough sun this afternoon to keep me going.
My project today was to pickle the water maker (no cucumbers were involved). That went well and was a good first step to check out the installation and start getting familiar with it. The water here is not clean enough to run the water maker. I want to test it, but being impatient would only ruin it.
We are glad we grabbed the first weather window to run down the New Jersey coast in the Atlantic all the way to the Delaware Bay. Otherwise we would still be stuck on the Hudson. Hurricane José is the issue now. But for where we are, it is not an issue.
The blog photo shows one of the several duck blinds in the area. At least that is what I think they are. Correct information is always welcome.
