My kinda town, Annapolis is ...
22 September 2017 | Annapolis, MD home of the naval academy
Sunny and warm. Some clouds
The day started off with getting the holding tank pumped out. Then off we went - with no wind - motoring again. Coming into the harbor area, my depth sounder suddenly started dropping out, triggering alarms about no depth sounder data. Well, I need my depth sounder data. So I made a quick trip down below to where the depth sounder plugs into my data network. With the laundry soap being stored down there, I couldn't readily see which wire went to the depth sounder. But there is only one tee fitting there, so I checked each connection. I was able to tighten one connection, and that seemed to fix the problem. Whew!
We made it to Annapolis, passing under the only full bridge crossing the Chesapeake. We grabbed an anchor ball for the night. I am staying here four nights while I go back home for the weekend. I gave Tari and Roger my fancy boat hook for picking up mooring balls. They loved it. I ended up also grabbing a mooring ball, which I hadn't planned on. So I didn't get to use my fancy new toy for the first time. I used an old fashioned boat hook and got the ball the first try, so Roger and Tari said I didn't need the fancy boat hook. That's okay, they still can't have it. :-) Note to self: remember to get back your boat hook from Tari and Roger.
In Annapolis, Roger and Chris walked to West Marine, which was farther away than they thought. I decided it would be safer and cheaper if I didn't go there, so I walked around Annapolis with Tari and Julie. But after two Irish Pubs and other stores, I wasn't sure my choice was that much safer. We met back up with Roger and Chris and had dinner at Pussers, which had a restaurant in the British Virgin Islands. Not sure there is much left in the BVI anymore. At Pussers, we had their famous Painkillers, another drink. Then we went back to Paradise Hunter for another drink, a Julie special. And before all this started, I had a beer on my boat. Folks who know me know this is more drinking than I would normally do in an entire month.
Annapolis is a special town. Many years ago in my youth I had a chance to live here. Maybe I should have taken it.
Time to pack up for tomorrow - going home for the weekend to see Pat, attend a party, and see old friends. Especially to see Pat.
The blog photo is taken from the restaurant. You can see my boat in the photo.
