Winning the war on batteries
10 November 2017 | St Augustine
Cool and cloudy with a strong north wind.
I was back at my brothers boat this morning. I should explain that Mark has done so much work on my boat over the years, and given me so much help and advise that I could never pay that all back. So to be in a position to help him out, and to also be capable of helping him out, feels good on my part. But back to the saga of the batteries. Today was cooler than yesterday, and there was also much better light, so with those two things on his side, Mark was able to free the frozen bolts and connect the battery cables properly. Other projects were also tackled, which included assembling his new 85 pound Mantis anchor. It is the only anchor I know of that comes in pieces - some assembly required! He is here for a week and he gets a lot done ... but there is a lot he wants to get done to get the boat from charter standards up to his standards.
In turn, I used his help to change the oil on my dinghy outboard engine. Maybe I need an engine caddy to help with that in the future and for winter storage in the basement.
Tomorrow I intend to explore the city.
