That’s entertainment ...
19 November 2017 | Daytona Beach
Cloudy and mild, 70’s. Back to north wind.
Yesterday morning’s entertainment was brought to you by the Coast Guard and a 24’ powerboat taking on water through one of its outboard engines. This was at the St Augustine Inlet. Several boats went out to help, including Coast Guard Auxiliary, a sailboat (they can’t do much), towboat, and another craft more suited to picking up passengers. The inlet was rough, but the three passengers were rescued from the boat. The boat was towed as fast as possible, so that kept the water flowing out of the boat, so they didn’t have to ground the boat to save it. Eventually everybody and the boat made it back to dock. I listened to this on VHF channel 16 as I motored down the ICW. So it was like listening to a radio show (a very stilted radio show) from back in the old days.
It is a bit windy here at anchor. I never face into the wind as per usual. I always face either north or south with the current. I always worry about dragging, in spite of the fact that several boats here appear beat up and abandoned, and they don’t drag. Changing direction every 6 hours by 180 degrees is uncomfortable, but I seem to be holding. I suppose you get used to it and learn to relax.
Tomorrow I go to my Thanksgiving marina where I will meet Pete and Sue for lunch. I met them in Beaufort, NC. This is somewhat near to their home port of Sanford. Tuesday I fly home for Thanksgiving and Pat. I miss her. It is lonely doing this without her.
