Boat docks with Coast Guard on board
29 November 2017 | Inlet Harbor Marina
Sunny. Low 70s with slight breeze.
The long dock I am on filled up today. The last boater came with the Coast Guard in tow. So some members of the Coast Guard were on his boat when he docked - he was solo, but they didn’t help. And some stayed on the Coast Guard boat, which docked behind me. The Coast Guard left, but later I saw law enforcement officers on the dock questioning the captain. This afternoon’s entertainment was brought to you by the letters USCG.
The ocean beach is .8 miles away. There is also a convenience store and restaurant .7 miles away. I was amazed at the amount of wine and booze the store had. This evening, I went to the restaurant nearby for dinner - an interesting combination of Italian restaurant and Tiki Bar. I was in the mood for the Italian/pizza side. And just like the convenience store next door, they had a healthy wine list.
In a few months, the restaurant on the marina dock will reopen and the dumpsters in the parking lot will be hauled away. What caused all this destruction? Hurricane Matthew in 2016. In St Augustine, there were signs on some buildings showing the high water mark from Matthew. Surprisingly enough, hurricane Irma didn’t help the recovery efforts ongoing from Matthew. Go figure.
I saw a paddle boarder with a medium size dog today. It was around noon when the current was slowing down. They went to a shallow area where the dog could run around in the water. Then they hopped back on the board and continued on to the next stop.
Tomorrow I cast off my dock lines and start heading south again.
