To Florida, or to the anchorage

10 February 2018 | Rose Island
Sunny and warm. A little breezy.
Sea Hawk came to Nassau from the anchorage at Rose Island with Bruce, Chris, and Jerry. Jerry was given instructions on how to run Paradise Hunter and the anchor setup. Tari normally steers when docking and anchoring, but the boat needs two folks to run and anchor. With that, all three boats headed back to Rose Island to wait for Roger's return to Nassau by plane. Tari and I will return to Nassau on my boat to pick him up. I told Roger that I had read horror stories of folks trying to fly to the Bahamas with a one way ticket because they were getting on a boat. So he asked about it and got copies of the boat cruising permit papers that he needed so he could fly back.

At 2pm, Kristtaney, with Roger and Keith and three dogs, left for Florida - an expected 38 hour trip nonstop. It looks like a fantastic sail with a following wind for them. We will see where they land in Florida. They have several choices depending on speed and how far they can get. They will take 38 hours getting back. We left Miami January 23 and didn't arrive in Nassau until February 8. No sightseeing and the right weather window makes a difference.

This anchorage has a wonderful little beach and there are several other boats here. It is a little rolly , but not as bad as Chub Cay. The wind may shift just enough to reduce the swells. A catamaran that gives tours from Nassau stops here daily. The swells make everything involving the dinghy tricky. A beach landing today almost had an unhappy ending. But outside of that, it is sunny, warm, and the water is 77. It is also very salty. I had been wearing my snorkeling mask previously, so this was the first time jumping in without it. SURPRISE! Let's just say wearing the full face mask led to some bad habits that didn't work well without it.
