A dear friend of mine, a fellow cruiser, and an artist buddy lost her battle with cancer today. I had been helping her with a free watercolor work funshop for other cruisers and expats locally. She had gone through the chemo and radiation last year for lung cancer and won. Then it was discovered that 2/3 of her liver and trachea were now consumed. She was told that it was in her blood; the doctors could fight the cancer, but couldn't save her. She was a joyful, proud, strong, and Christian woman. She chose to bypass any further suggested experimental treatments and try to visit her family while she could. She and her wonderful husband left here, visited a couple days in Boston and a couple days in London, then did make it to Australia where their two daughters and grandchildren live. I believe it was her own brave and stubborn strength that allowed her to make it to the children. She will be missed by so, so many in the cruising community.
