The Russians have moved in and we have to go back to Aigina
7th May 2014
Oh woa is me but it's not that bad. Just because we have to sail back to Aigina against the wind to sort out Lati's paperwork. We thought we could start a new transit log from Poros after leaving the boatyard in Aigina. Wrong! Apparently our transit log expired on the 29th February and we were supposed to apply for an extension. Even if Lati was no longer cruising, out of the water and we were in Australia. And Bill had visited several offices before we left, paying taxes , port dues etc. and Lati is less than 10 metres and we were told didn't need a transit log. Now apparently she does because she is not an EU vessel. We phoned Gregory Apsrakis the boatyard manager and he will write a piece of paper saying Lati was on the hard for the winter. If we don't get this piece of paper in theory we could be liable for a fine of $100 a day since 29th February! But the nice port police lady said just get the boatyard piece of paper and say we didn't know and all will be well. We hope.....
And then the Russians moved in. Just as we were sitting in the cockpit enjoying a wine, a very large wide shiny latest model Beneteau began to reverse into the space between us and the big power boat. Heart palpitations again as the large shiny boat drifted over our anchor rope. Oh not again! I didn't want to look. Fortunately our friendly Greek motor boat crew came to the rescue and took the line from the non English speaking Russians. But then their bloody anchor chain hooked up our anchor rope... Ho hum. Bill said tighten the chain so our anchor rope would slip off. Instead they loosened it. No! Said the Greeks on the motor boat. Bill jumped on board the shiny Beneteau with a boat hook to push our stern anchor rope back on the water. Anyway after a bit of manoevering, the Russians have squeezed in nice and snug so we can hear an irritating stuck kind of low electric engine sound. Maybe their toilet is stuck? They are leaving tomorrow and we probably will too. At the same time possibly when they pull up our anchor.
Med mooring in the Greek islands is fun isn't it? We might just have to anchor somewhere and cook dinner instead of going to a taverna. How terrible...
