Day sail to Gigha

Pronounced Gee-a, this is a small island off the west side of the Mull of Kintyre. A journey of 29 miles from our anchorage at the Fairy Isles, basically south down the Sound of Jura. Wind was from the SW and a pleasant 16-18 knots so once out of Loch Sween we were able to sail all the way to Gigha. Great views of the Paps of Jura and lots of sightings of young guillemots on the water but still close to a parent and Manx shearwaters. It was sunny! Though not sure I’d say warm. The mooring buoys at Gigha are well spaced and some are for 25 tonnes - perfect for us. Went for a kayak around the sandy bay and then went ashore for supper at the Boat House cafe. A sunny evening and we were able to sit outside to eat (albeit with a couple of jumpers and a coat on).
