Loch Tarbert

From the Sound of Islay we headed into Loch Tarbert, which virtually cuts Jura in two as it goes so far into the island. We anchored about half way so we could kayak to see explore one of the many raised beaches in this area. These were created 10,000 years ago during interglacial periods when the sea level fell. (See the Geological Society website for a better explanation!). The pictures don’t really do them justice; they are just incredible. It was a shame we could stay longer to explore the loch, but we needed to get the tide to over the top of Jura - through the notorious Corryvrekan.
