22-24 Aug. As the stormed subsided we continued north, overnighting at anchorage off Tarbert on Harris and then over to the Shiant Isles which we visited in June 2019 when the cliffs were full of seabirds. The islands just didn't seem right without squabbling guillemots and low flying puffins, and amazing to think these tiny birds will now spend the next 8 months at sea.
From the Shiants we continued on to the busy port of Stornoway, stayed for 3 days. Cycled from Stornoway up to the very top of Lewis to the lighthouse at the Butt of Lewis. Stayed overnight here before heading to the standing stones of Callanish and then back to Stornoway (into 40mph winds!). Lewis is probably the least pretty of the islands, generally being extensive areas of moorland, but more populous and we recognised lots of place names from the Peter May's 'Lewis Trilogy' - well worth a read if you like crime.
