In search of beavers

Beavers were released about 10 miles from Ardfern in 2009 and are now well established. We went in search of them, found lots of signs of them and saw a lodge (a beaver house) on a freshwater loch but not a beaver. Probably because we were there in the afternoon and they are active dawn and dusk. Amazed by the size of some of the trees they would fell - this is probably just one days work! They fell them so they can then eat the bark. They do a great job at ‘habitat management’ and apparently the number of other wildlife - dragonflies, otters and amphibians has increased since the beavers have been here.
