Finally leaving Lochinver

4-7 July, we finally got away from Lochinver, slightly delayed departure (by a day) with a strong Easterly wind pinning us onto the pontoon. We couldn’t guarantee getting off the pontoon without damaging the boat in the process…so we went for another walk instead! When we did get away we just a little way south to Enard Bay; which is full of small islands and inlets with numerous options for anchoring. This one had a couple of resident seals and at least one otter. Pretty windy to start with and we tested out our re-shaped tri-sail (the small sail near the back of the boat) which is designed to reduce the swing of the boat at anchor. j reckoned it reduced it by 20%. Gratefully the wind subsided in the night and we had a sunny and windless morning to explore the bay.
From here we headed further south to a group of 30 small islands - the Summer Isles, just off the coast near Ullapool. So named as farmers would bring their sheep and cattle to the islands for the summer months.
