Wintering in Rhode Island

16 November 2012 | Hinckley's Yard, Portsmouth, RI
Gaile
Well, we left Venturous in this spot on October 12 at the Hinckley Yard, tied up and tucked in tight, waiting to be hauled and serviced for the winter. They survived Hurricane Sandy ok, although it meant a massive rush to haul 100 boats in 3 days the weekend before the hurricane arrived in the area!

Now our energies turn to home, career and the holidays back here in Annapolis, AND planning for a schedule of new adventures visiting New England coastal areas and islands next spring and summer.

Nestled In, Relaxing

Just enjoying our new home address for a bit, on the west side of Conanicut Island, moored at Dutch Harbor. A short walk away from the village of Jamestown.

Finally - Home Port!!

We made it to Newport harbor in 3.5 days starting from our late afternoon launch from the St. George Dinghy Club last Saturday evening. One day of rough seas and some squalls, but mostly great breezes, great sailing and sun. Winds refreshed nicely after our sunset dinner last night about 35 miles from Newport, and we flew into Newport under a star-lit sky, at 10 - 11 kts with breezes around 25 kts. A great way to arrive!

We are now moored at quiet and lovely Dutch Harbor, on the west side of Conanicut Island (between Newport and the mainland) and home next week.
See you all soon with more news and photos!

A good memory, the evening view from our spot at St. George Dinghy Club.

Newport-Bound

14 July 2012 | St. George, Bermuda

We are finally ready to conclude this trip and head for Newport late today, after new 2 new crew members arrive from Newport. Did a sea trial with the repaired/rebuilt engine parts on Thursday and all went well, sounds better (and cleaner exhaust) than before. Weather seems good all the way, despite a bit of weather locally around Bermuda today. Expecting a 4 day trip so anticipate arriving sometime late Wednesday. We'll go to a mooring at Dutch Harbor, on the west side of Jamestown, where we'll stay a few days and be joined by Duncan. They've been waiting for us!

We were able to relax and enjoy this beautiful island just enough, met a few very nice Bermudians we hope to keep in touch with, and also met some interesting fellow sailors. New photos are in a Bermuda album here, and above is a shot of our Volvo engine expert Sean White, his son, and Ivor and Lori, a sailing couple from New Orleans, also stranded here with engine problems. All came on the sea trail the other day and helped with lines.

Looking forward to seeing the U.S.coast, especially after such a long absense for Phil. This warrants that bottle of champagne that's been in the back of the frig so long, waiting, waiting.....
Prayers are welcomed, for a safe and smooth passage.
