Checking into Croatia: a good experience

Our friends from Marina di Ragusa, Marcel and Helen had advised us this was a very good place to check into Croatia. There are some stories you hear with the officials making life difficult and imposing fines unless you do everything by the book. We arrived at 10.00 and chose to go side on against the harbour wall. The was plenty of depth (6 metres) so all was well. It was easy to come alongside and tie up. There is also a low pontoon for one yacht outside the police office. But the wall looked easier. The Harbour Master told us to go to the Police first to stamp in and then come back to see him.

The policeman was very friendly and efficient and after taking many photocopies of everything except our insurance papers sent us on our way to see the Harbour Master. He took copies of our papers too, asked us several questions and then asked if we wanted a 30 or 90 day vignette. The paperwork for Njord lasts until the end of the year and is the "safe navigation" fee which costs Kn 442. We are going to be in Croatia for 40 days so had to go for the 90 day vignette. The total cost was Kn 2900 / €390

I did not have enough Kuna so part paid in Euros; you have to pay in cash no plastic here.

We then had a coffee door and used the ATM machine to get more Kuna.
