Marina - CA Rally

17 June 2018 | Marina

Marina is the name of the little place as well as having a marina in the English sense. We were booked in here for three nights as on the Wednesday evening the Cruising Association was have a Med section rally. Anne and Kate organised this for us and did a most excellent job. There were 15 boats in total and 42 people including the HLR (local representative for the CA) at the magnificent dinner that was laid on by the marina restaurant.

It was blowing a hooley when we came in and it took us some time to get on to the dock stern to for the lazy lines; but we didn't hit anything so that's the main thing even if it was not too pretty an entrance. Njord does not like going backwards at the best of times and particularly not in a wind. We should have known better and gone in bows to. Of course once we were in the wind dropped and everyone else had an easy time, typical ...

The meal was wonderful - Dalmatian starters which were delicious and then meat or fish from the barbecue. We had bad weather again but only heavy rain this time and the electricity went out in the whole area. The owner of the restaurant was very worried that he was not going to be able to cook the meat and fish but he did a splendid job. It was a wonderful evening.

Marina Agana is not in the ACI group and is less expensive but still had excellent showers and facilities. Kate had also negotiated a discount of 25% for the rally so it was all very reasonable. There was an excellent laundry service so most of us were making good use of this. We had three weeks of laundry piling up so it was a very welcome service. This is a Sunsail charter centre so we had to all move on by Friday as it was change over day. It would be a great place to take out a charter boat from.

Marina has a very distinctive fortified tower or kula which was built in 16th century by the Bishop of Trogir to provide protection from the Turks. There is not just shopping here even though there are 3 small supermarkets but we did go to a tiny open air market with 3 stalls of lovely looking garden vegetables.

Marina Agana - €61 / night
Laundry service - €7 per wash & €7 per dry
Good marina wifi

Vessel Name: Njord of London
Vessel Make/Model: Malo 39 Classic
Crew: Vic Farhi & Clare Harrison
About: Learnt to sail together and the first sailing experience was in Lanzarote in 2005. We then bought Mandarin, a Bavaria 39 and in June 2012 bought Njord, a Malo 39 from the Baltic.
Extra: As attributed to Mark Twain: Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bow lines, sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

Two weeks of blissful sailing gently around the Ionian in 2019. High season for chartered and family holidays yet we still managed to find some less frequented bays to drop the hook
