Skradin to Otok Privic

20 June 2018 | Otok Privic
Clare
We are in for some windy weather so we planned several anchorages and buoy fields in case we did not like the sea state and wind strength coming out of the sheltered Krka river.

Our aim was to go to a Otok Privic which is a small island with no cars. It is very sheltered except in southerly winds and we have northerlies. The options are the harbour wall with lazy lines or on a buoy. We did not want the harbour wall as it was going to be rough overnight according to the forecasts. The mooring buoys are neatly laid in two rows and using our "gedunker" with a Carrick bend to attach the mooring line to the boat hook's line to thread it through the metal loop on top of the buoy we were quickly secured.

The Harbour Master comes round at about 16.00 to take your rubbish and collect the dues.

This is a very pretty village and on the quayside there is a monument of a parachute man to commemorate Faust Vranic who described parachutes and using the tide to create energy in his published works in 1595.

We have been using Predict Wind, Passage Weather & Windy and now thanks to Fenicia we look at CAPE (convective accumulated potential engery measured in joules per kilogram of atmosphere) and hope for less than 1000 which is marginally unstable and we don't want 2500-3000 as that means likely thunderstorms and over 3500 it's "Buckle up Dorothy, Kanas it ain't".

Skradin to Otok Privic: 8nm down the river & 2nm to Privic
Buoy: Kn252 or €34 / night

Vessel Name: Njord of London
Vessel Make/Model: Malo 39 Classic
Crew: Vic Farhi & Clare Harrison
About: Learnt to sail together and the first sailing experience was in Lanzarote in 2005. We then bought Mandarin, a Bavaria 39 and in June 2012 bought Njord, a Malo 39 from the Baltic.
Extra: As attributed to Mark Twain: Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bow lines, sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

Two weeks of blissful sailing gently around the Ionian in 2019. High season for chartered and family holidays yet we still managed to find some less frequented bays to drop the hook
