Crotone - Lega Navale Berth

14 September 2018 | Crotone
Clare
On the way to Crotone we had the fishing line out and caught a mackerel, just the right size for us. Our friends in Scotland have been getting much better catches!

We came into Lega Navale and the marinero recognised us from our stop in May in the way north. They offer a couple of berths to visitors on the outside pontoon if they have the space. Most people go to the Yacht Krotone Club which has much better facilities but you have to walk all the way round the harbour to get to the restaurants bars and shops. Where we stayed you are just off the promenade and beach. Lega Navale does have shower facilities in the bar and Club house but they are very old and we showered on board.

In Crotone we found a great butcher, greengrocer and a deli. The butcher had some nice lamb and chickens available perfect for our slow cooker as we did have shore power.

The fuel pontoon has very clean diesel and there is a big turnover with the super yachts coming in to refuel.

What was a good thing from our May visit was they have positioned yellow buoys around the sandbank at the starboard side of the entrance.

To get to the Lega Navale pontoon you have to run parellel to the fuel pontoon and then make 2 right angled turns to get to the pontoon.

Lega Navale pontoons: €50 per night including water and electricity.

Vessel Name: Njord of London
Vessel Make/Model: Malo 39 Classic
Crew: Vic Farhi & Clare Harrison
About: Learnt to sail together and the first sailing experience was in Lanzarote in 2005. We then bought Mandarin, a Bavaria 39 and in June 2012 bought Njord, a Malo 39 from the Baltic.
Extra: As attributed to Mark Twain: Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bow lines, sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

Two weeks of blissful sailing gently around the Ionian in 2019. High season for chartered and family holidays yet we still managed to find some less frequented bays to drop the hook
