Samos Marina

26 December 2018 | Samos Marina
Clare
We had come to Samos to take a look at the marina to see if this may be a choice for us next winter. We met the manager, Chris who gave us good information and let us take a look around. There are plenty of shower units and facilities and a self service laundry room and in the summer a laundry service in the marina, however they are somewhat "tired". The marina cafe was open so had a good cup of coffee and chit chat gaining more useful information. On our inspection of the pontoons we met a very nice English couple and spent a good hour or so chatting to them.

Our opinion was that this would be a great location to come in the summer or a good place if we wanted to take our boat out of the water for the winter and return home. You can work on your own boat in the yard if you want to. It is far too quiet with only about 5 live aboards for us and there were not many places in the town open. There is a Lidl not far from the marina and you can cycle there. There was, as mentioned in a previous blog a butcher, fishmonger and greengrocer open in the main street and a convenience store.

I completed a spread sheet with our observations on the facilities. If you are interested drop me a comment and I can give you some more information. One downside is that as you walk along the coastal path to the marina you pass the sewage works, and whilst not "smelly" when we were there we can imagine if the wind is in the wrong direction you might get a smell in the marina.

Vessel Name: Njord of London
Vessel Make/Model: Malo 39 Classic
Crew: Vic Farhi & Clare Harrison
About: Learnt to sail together and the first sailing experience was in Lanzarote in 2005. We then bought Mandarin, a Bavaria 39 and in June 2012 bought Njord, a Malo 39 from the Baltic.
Extra: As attributed to Mark Twain: Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bow lines, sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

Two weeks of blissful sailing gently around the Ionian in 2019. High season for chartered and family holidays yet we still managed to find some less frequented bays to drop the hook
