Restaurants, Bars and Cafes & Artemis Boat Yard

27 December 2018 | Restaurants in Leros open for the winter
Clare
We had some great meals on Leros and have enjoyed Greek food as a change from Sicilian and Italian.

Our friend Mark recommended several other restaurants to us but they were closed for the winter.

These we visited and would also recommend them:

Petrino Grill, Lakki +30 22470 24807 - excellent meat with friendly owners
Persiana, Lakki +30 224702 2085 - bar with craft beers & serves food too
Apotolis Taverna, Psaropoula, +30 22470 25200 - Fish, Greek restaurant
Seven Gates Music Cafe, Lakki + 30 2247 026322 - organic & vegetarian and good G&Ts

We were recommended to the Seven Gates cafe by the couple we met in Samos marina and they asked us to say hi to Anna Maria who runs the cafe and her husband Chris who is an excellent engineer. Anna Maria was very friendly, told us where to go and what to see on Leros and organised a car rental for us. We spent the next day touring the island which gave us a good feel for all the lovely bays and harbours around the island, perfect for Njord.

We also visited Artemis Yard (37 11'.61N: 26 47' 01E) near the airport. There is another yard closer to the airport on the main road which we did not visit. This is just a boatyard, no berths in the water, it is family run and very friendly. We were shown around and were very impressed. There was a good chandlery open, two shower facilities, a self-service laundry, a customer sail washing area and a great customer barbecue area. Here you come out of the water on a trailer. The boatyard is very flexible and you can use their staff to do your annual maintenance, do the work yourself and you can stay on board, or you can bring in external contractors too. You would definitely need a car here though as it is off the main road up a narrow lane and track a couple of kilometers away. The yard looks secure. If you have a lift out and in and stay for no more than 7 days then the cost is only the in and out. It would be a very good yard for overwintering if we wanted to leave Njord and go home.

Vessel Name: Njord of London
Vessel Make/Model: Malo 39 Classic
Crew: Vic Farhi & Clare Harrison
About: Learnt to sail together and the first sailing experience was in Lanzarote in 2005. We then bought Mandarin, a Bavaria 39 and in June 2012 bought Njord, a Malo 39 from the Baltic.
Extra: As attributed to Mark Twain: Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bow lines, sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

Two weeks of blissful sailing gently around the Ionian in 2019. High season for chartered and family holidays yet we still managed to find some less frequented bays to drop the hook
