We visited Castello di Donnafugata just about 25 minutes drive from Marina di Ragusa with Jose and Jan with the intention of a visit to the castle and a really good steak in the restaurant within the grounds. Firstly we passed the calves in the pens in the farmyard and then walked up to the castle. It was a nice warm spring day.

There has been a good deal of restoration work done on the castle in 2018 which is good to see. The 20 acre gardens are well maintained too with a maze and various follies.

The restaurant is hidden away behind the bar entrance and was pretty full for a Wednesday lunchtime. We did not realize there was such a great restaurant here when I came with my sister and niece on Boxing Day 2017.

The steaks were really delicious; well hung meat which is not usually available in the butchers and supermarkets close by. We shared a first course platter and then a large steak each and even took home a "doggie" bag.
No dogs benefited from the leftovers however, it was far too good and made a lovely supper for us!

It is famous for its local cuisine and is run in the best family tradition with all the family members involved.
