Sicily to Malta - 9 August 2021

12 August 2021 | Crossing from Sicily to Malta
Clare
Today is finally the day to leave Marina di Ragusa in Sicily and sail to Malta.

We got ready to leave our berth L45 with help from Dave assisting with our lines and the marineros to lead us out of the marina at around 06:30. There was going to be very little wind around 5 - 10 knots all day but flat seas and it was going to be on the nose most of the day. We therefore motor sailed so that we would arrive at MMH, the yard we were going to have a lift out for maintenance before they finished for the evening around 17.00.

The Malta channel was very busy with absolutely huge cargo ships all over the place and going in all directions; it felt a bit like Piccadilly Circus.

We crossed the international sea border and then had the Maltese courtesy flag flying. We are very much looking forward to our summer in Malta. We were one of the last to leave Marina di Ragusa as we had the AZ vaccination and our second jab was not until 5 July. We then had to wait two weeks after that before being able to enter Malta. However we had not and even now have not received the code required to download the EU green pass digital pass onto our mobile phones. After going back to the vaccination centre to try and get the code we eventually had to get our Doctor to access our records download the certificates and send them to us. But that will thank goodness work.

Vessel Name: Njord of London
Vessel Make/Model: Malo 39 Classic
Crew: Vic Farhi & Clare Harrison
About: Learnt to sail together and the first sailing experience was in Lanzarote in 2005. We then bought Mandarin, a Bavaria 39 and in June 2012 bought Njord, a Malo 39 from the Baltic.
Extra: As attributed to Mark Twain: Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bow lines, sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

Two weeks of blissful sailing gently around the Ionian in 2019. High season for chartered and family holidays yet we still managed to find some less frequented bays to drop the hook
