Montacute House - National Trust

Apparently Montacute House is one of the most visited NT properties in the UK.

It is an Elizabethan masterpiece with stunning gardens and a long wide tree-lined drive through the park. The owner Sir Edward Phelips was a lawyer, a politician and the first Speaker of the House of Commins in 1601. He had the house built as his summer holiday home where he lavishly entertained which was his "get away" from the smelly streets in London in the summer.

Montacute House - National Trust and "bring your doggie" day

23 February 2020 | Montacute House
Clare
My god daughter, Catherine's parents live in Devon not too far from Exeter. We decided to meet up half way between Salisbury and their home and visit Montacute House. As it was bring your doggie day it was a great excuse to take Wilfred their cockapoo for a ramble in the parkland.

Wilfred came on a tour around the house too and is such a live wire, he has a lovely friendly disposition.

I went by train through very pretty Wiltshire and Somerset countryside. Montacute House is near Yeovil.

Salisbury Catherdral & The Magna Carta

23 February 2020 | Calisbury Cathedral
Clare
Salisbury cathedral was built from 1220 to 1320 on the gravel river bed in the valley. Originally it did not have a spire, thia was added later and since 1549 it has been the tallest church spire in the UK.

During Jon's stay with us, he climbed the 332 steps up the spire on a tour and we all visited the exhibition of the Magna Carta. This amazing document set many of the legal principals we have today and features heavily in the American Consitution. It was to keep the Barons at bay in the ongoing battle with King John.

The Cathedral is celebrating 800 years and the was a superb light show to music to celebrate the event.

Winter in Salisbury

15 December 2019 | Salisbury Cathedral, Wiltshire
Clare
This winter we have decided to spend the winter back in the UK. We have chosen Salisbury; easy to get to London, near to my Mum, near to our friends on the way to and in the West Country; so it seems very sensible. We do have to report it is a bit of a shock and takes some getting used to the cold biting winds!

Njord is all packed up for the winter and is berthed in Marina di Ragusa again. We will miss her.

Celebration in Marina di Ragusa for the"End of Summer"

22 September 2019 | Marina di Ragusa
Clare
It is still very warm, but Saturday 21 September at midnight marked the end of summer in the town of Marina di Ragusa with a musical concert in the porto touristico square at 22.00 and a firework competition at 00.30 over the breakwater.

Njord had a ring side seat. It was a beautiful display lasting an hour.
Vessel Name: Njord of London
Vessel Make/Model: Malo 39 Classic
Crew: Vic Farhi & Clare Harrison
About: Learnt to sail together and the first sailing experience was in Lanzarote in 2005. We then bought Mandarin, a Bavaria 39 and in June 2012 bought Njord, a Malo 39 from the Baltic.
Extra: As attributed to Mark Twain: Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bow lines, sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.
