Maintenance treats for Njord

17 June 2020 | Marina di Ragusa
We may be in week 14 after the official UK lock down but Njord is still being loved. Several maintenance jobs are being done and this week she will have two small patches of caulking replaced on her teak deck. We were advised to make sure the caulking material was compatible with the original type of caulking. For a Malo teak deck we needed the product that does not require a primer. It was quite difficult to track down as this product was out of stock with all the usual retailers, but eventually we got some from Sweden.

Njord will have new safety equipment when we return. The danbuoy, safety light and jack stays, which are the deck life lines have all degraded in the UV rays. She also needed new taps in the galley and heads, which apparently look great.

We had her sails taken away for the winter for washing and any repairs so they are still in the sail loft. That's good news as when strong winds blow across the marina often the air is clouded with a fine orange sand and it "colours" the sails as it gets everywhere, even though we have sailbags and covers when the sails are on.

300944 eventually arrives ...

14 May 2020 | Salisbury
300944 is the "buyacow.uk" cow, (well part cow) we bought and the delivery finally arrived today. We have been waiting a whlie for our cow and even have some appropriately name "Con Carne" Malbec to pair the steak with tonight for our supper. We have already tested the wine and it is delicious.

We bought a cow.... well part of one!

With the lock down food shopping was a bit hit and miss to begin with. But the supermarkets have done a great job and opened up many thousands of home delivery and click and collect slots. We don't have a car so we have been going for large and infrequent home delivery slots.

But what has happened out of all this is alternative suppliers are delivering and opening up their wares to indivduals. We get a regular delivery from a company in Shaftsbury called La Chasse. They usually sell to restaurants. I think we were their first customers and have three excellent orders now.

One of Vic's friends told us about "Buy a Cow.uk". Being intrigued we investigated this and ended up ordering part of cow 300944.

9th week of self isolation with Covid-19

14 May 2020 | Wilton Road, Salisbury
This is the view from our sitting room window in our Salisbury flat at 19.00. Very quiet for one of the busiest roundabouts in Salisbury, St. Paul's.

We are following 4 sessions of yoga a week on Zoom with Yogisal, spend more time on What's App chit chatting with friends and connecting with video calls. Our Devon friends have been constructing a shepherds hut in their beautiful garden. The garden slopes steeply and the hut sits at the top of the slope with stunnung views over Cornwall. They have been making daily videos to send us on their amazing endeavours. Now the sun is out they are able to take advantage of all that hard work. The hut is a true masterpiece.

The Cruising Association has set up their talks via Zoom and watching the last two sessions makes us want to be back in Sicily with Njord.

Njord is being well looked after by our great friends from Flirtie. They are stuck in Marina di Ragusa whilst we are stuck in Salisbury. We keep sending Njord lots of presents so she still feels loved and Flirtie even received a present in our last Force4 parcel too so as not be left out.

4th week of self isolation with Covid-19

18 April 2020
We are in Salisbury in a nice rental flat and in the 4th week of self-isolation. So good so far, but how all this unknown progresses who knows?

Happy Easter Everyone

Vessel Name: Njord of London
Vessel Make/Model: Malo 39 Classic
Crew: Vic Farhi & Clare Harrison
About: Learnt to sail together and the first sailing experience was in Lanzarote in 2005. We then bought Mandarin, a Bavaria 39 and in June 2012 bought Njord, a Malo 39 from the Baltic.
Extra: As attributed to Mark Twain: Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bow lines, sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.
