s/v Island Sol’s friend Linda flies home today. Charlie and/or Saundra plan to accompany her on the ferry to ensure she catches the correct ride to the airport. We decide to join the ferry-crossing party to make an oppourtunistic Costco run. A second reason for making a Cancun Costco run today, quite possibly our last of this season, is that due to Tropical Depression Two (likely to be Tropical Storm Bonnie) located north of the Bahama chain, a settled wind & sea weather window opens Sunday for Southbound travel towards Guatemala. We wanted to depart Isla Mujeres next Saturday, June 4, so that we can see Charlie & Saundra’s daughter Haley and her husband, arriving June 2, however now squally weather is forecasted to arrive here Thursday and persist for at least 5 days.

While we’ll complete other get-ready-to-go tasks this weekend, the soonest we could be comfortably ready to depart is Tuesday morning, checking out Monday, and at that point it’s not clear we’d have enough time to to get far enough South to avoid the arriving weather system. It is also not clear how severe nor widespread the squally conditions will be; could be off and on, could be fairly isolated, making daytime hops reasonable. If it is a “hunker-down” system, it could clear the region by the 7th or 8th providing a nice back-side weather window. At this point, we’ll continue preparations and talk with Chris P (weather subscription) Monday morning. Monday will either be a super busy day or just another day in paradise.
