Rain Rain Rain
24 January 2018 | Rio Dulce, Guatemala
Susan / thundershowers, 80 degrees F
We’ve been under a very wet weather pattern lately: rain, rain and more rain. The effect of cold fronts moving far enough south every few days. At least today, it’s back near 80 degrees F. Man, last week was cold. For here, that is. Cold enough for Jerry to catch one, he’s been under the weather for several days. So far I seem to be fighting it off. A couple of good doses of my restorative “nurse nancy” chicken soup doing its work.
Vida Dulce is performing well, both on the trip down & back from Cayo Quemado and our time at anchor. All systems and instruments are working. Getting on & off Dulcita from the sugar scoops is still a little tricky but we’re figuring it out.
Bahia Nana Juana / Shell Bay anchorage is large with only a handful of boats anchored. Most boats are in the half-dozen or so marinas that line the bay. Good holding in heavy sticky mud. We’re across the river from town so it’s reasonably quiet overnight; not much noisier than being up-river at Tortugal. We’re well protected from winds & seas, however it is intermediately rolly with lanchas speeding back and forth with tourists or getting fuel at one of the two large fueling stations.
For 111 days now the bar fridge has been held hostage by Guate Customs. Jerry calls Karla @ Transcargo for an update. Good news, bad news. They have a delivery date. It’s Feb 15. With Elie flying in to Roatan on Feb 23rd, that’s too late to wait. We’ll have to find a way to get it to Roatan when it actually is delivered.
There’s a short weather forecast for the passage to Roatan this weekend, not ideal but it is one. The longer term forecast looks as if the first weekend of Feb is even better. Jerry needs to be fully recovered from his illness before we do an overnight passage. We’ll see what ChrisP has to say in the morning and how Jerry’s feeling to make the decision. If we choose this upcoming one, we’ll need to do final provisioning tomorrow and travel to Livingston to check out Fri26.
