21 July 2008 | at anchor off Playa Francesa, Isla Graciosa
NE 18kt, hazy / overcast, temp 25C, 1020
VIENTE came to anchor off Playa Francesa, Isla Graciosa at 0730 this morning to complete the passage from Guernsey, logging 1369nm over 9 days.
The satellite map on the 'Viente Position Report' (Shiptrack) link should show the rugged volcanic nature of this land. Less than a mile across the straight of El Rio are the dramatic towering cliffs of the north of Lanzarote. Just one other cruising yacht here; with 18kts blowing off the land, the anchorage is like a mill pond.
Whist enjoying the ocean passage, it is also very nice when it all stops! Last night was particularly rolly, probably the result of reducing sails to 'postage stamp size' (to slow down for a dawn arrival). First item was a gloriously hot shower, then a strong coffee; now posting this arrival; next on agenda will be an egg & bacon breakfast!
Thank you Family, your emails really helped; we hope you can all enjoy cruising the Canarias over the coming year.
