on passage for Gran Canaria
24 September 2008 | passing south of Morro Jable
E 10kt, visibility good,
This morning in the anchorage at Pozo Negro, I noticed the wind picking up (forecast was for very light winds for the next few days). So, as 'time, tide & wind wait for no man' I made sail; family and friends will confirm that I never let a good wind go to waste! Thought I might check out anchorages on the south of Fuerteventura, but there was too much east in the wind, so we are off to Gran Canaria.
Now running 'wing & wing' before 10kts - is there any other way to sail - past the south coast. An impressive coastline with magnificent beaches and dramatic mountains rising to 2700ft. Pity about the massive tourist developement to the east of Morro Jable. So far we have enjoyed 10-15kts of wind, but if the forecast comes true it could be a slow crossing; for now conditions are perfect for dinner (another Spicy Pork from the freezer!) in the cockpit.
All is well.
