So close and yet so far

we are not last!

We have had a couple of great days run and have made up some of the lost time. There had been talk of a Monday or even Tuesday arrival in Falmouth - but thanks to a low pressure in Sole sea area we have had great favourable winds and sunny weather. Even before closing time on Sunday is now a faint [...]

moving again

For those few still bothered to keep up with this frankly rather boring drivel about frustrations and depravation which were after all - entirely self inflicted - thanks a million! I have no idea who reads this but looking forward to reading comments when back in land of the connected.

A day of testing

After a very pleasant social evening with venerable John O'sullivan with Thai curry and pints we rose early. (even in port sleep is short supply).

While waiting our leg 2 crew Peter Smith and Anne-Marie Kenny to turn up. We getting on with some testing.

A compass swing chart - essential for race rules - shows compass errors at differnet angles. Motoring in straight lines while calling out courses. Next the storm sail test. These hanky sized sails to be used in F9 and above. May they be buried in the forcabin and never need to see the light of day!!

Added the rudder to the wind self steering. If this fails it will feel a long way to the Azores as there will be no breaks from helming.

We will leave as early as possible to catch the tide down the Irish coast leaving land astern from Carnsore Point and Tuskar Rock and head straight for the Scillies where we hope to meet up with Rory and his father in yacht "Milou" - a fellow competitor.

Most importantly - the T shirts arrived.
