So close and yet so far

We are in the final days of the Azores adventure. thanks to everyone still reading this - although pretty sure that by now thats only my mum.

we are not last!

We have had a couple of great days run and have made up some of the lost time. There had been talk of a Monday or even Tuesday arrival in Falmouth - but thanks to a low pressure in Sole sea area we have had great favourable winds and sunny weather. Even before closing time on Sunday is now a faint [...]

moving again

For those few still bothered to keep up with this frankly rather boring drivel about frustrations and depravation which were after all - entirely self inflicted - thanks a million! I have no idea who reads this but looking forward to reading comments when back in land of the connected.

After a very long and frustrating night we eventually drifted over the finish line at 0400am local time. I don't think we are going to trouble the race judges for a podium position (2nd last in our class - only cos the last boat retired soon after passing the Scillies)

We stayed on the boat that night and I met up with my wife Sally and decamped to our apartment the next day.

Been resting up in the Azores - a beautiful place - well worth a holiday visit - and its cheap!

Last night we were "hob nobbing" with the "posh and becks" of ocean short handed racing. Mark Spatz and Susie Goodall (Mark was 2nd in a recent Golden Globe round the world single handed race - Susie was pitchpoled and dismasted in the same race and had to retire)

Today we had a lunch cooked slowly underground by hot springs for 7 hours visited the hot springs and swam in thermally heated pools - very relaxing and fell asleep in the bus on way back (still trying to catchup from the outbound sail)

Only 3 more days to go before the return journey starts on Tuesday. So far weather looking not too bad with no named storms on the horizon - like "Miguel" on the way here. Hopefully it will be a bit warmer and possibly slightly faster (maybe 10 days rather than 12?) we also intend to fully improve on our rather appalling finishing position. The post race analysis has been conducted and the blame appropriately apportioned and applied - this condition will prevail until morale improves.

Thanks for everyones donations - and the hugely encouraging ccomments here and the Virgin Giving site. These are really appreciated!
