The End

26 April 2014
Friday morning we motored over to the Indians for a morning snorkel. As mentioned earlier this is a small island formed by an outcrop of 3 large rock pinnacles that is part of the BVI park system. We then sailed down to the southwest tip of Norman Island and spent the afternoon at a mooring. The water was very clear and I spent another hour swimming here. There was a very large barracuda lurking under the boat for most of the time we were there which discouraged a few people from getting into the water. Around 3 it was time to make the final trip back to the Marina. We sailed over, but there was not much wind so it took a while, which was good. Around 5 we tied up at Manual Reef Marina where we had departed from 4 weeks earlier. We ate on the boat and started cleaning things up. Saturday morning Dylan and Britanie got a taxi to the St Thomas ferry at 5:45 am and Logan got one at 9:15. Jacob and Sally got a taxi to the Cooper Island ferry at 10:30. They were staying there the next week. I felt like a taxi dispatch agent for the morning. Garth, Sherry, Heather and I finished cleaning things up and got a taxi at 12. We had lunch at the Pussers pub across from the ferry terminal and got the 2:30 boat. We stayed at the Galleon hotel in Charlotte Amelia, St Thomas Saturday night and had a fancy last supper at at a nice restaurant near the Yacht Haven Grande. We flew out Sunday at 2:45.

It was an amazing 4 weeks. There was a total of 20 people on the boat and there were no issues at all, everyone was great. The boat was large enough that it never felt crowded, and of course the weather and location was perfect. Thanks to everyone.

The Willy T

25 April 2014
Thursday morning we sailed down to Little Harbour and anchored around noon. As usual there were lots of turtles and also large schools of fish. We spend a couple of hours there and motored down to the Bight on Norman Island and spent a lazy afternoon doing not much of anything. We went in to the new beach bar for happy hour, Dylan, Logan and I took our snorkel gear and swam back out to the boat afterwards. We followed a spotted eagle ray for a while and swam through large schools of fish. After dinner Sherry insisted everyone go to the Willy T which is an old boat that has been turned into a bar and restaurant. As we had already eaten we weren't going for the restaurant. The Willy T has a rowdy reputation and it did not disappoint that night. It was our last night out as we had to return to the Marina tomorrow so there was a bit of celebrating.

Great Dog & Marina Cay

24 April 2014
Wednesday morning we went north around Grand Camanoe Island to sail over to the Dogs which is a nearby group of small islands in the BVI park system. As we were heading north I commented that if we kept this heading for another 9 days we would end up very near Halifax, but no one was too thrilled at the thought. We anchored on the north shore of Great Dog in about 15 ft of water. With the normal east wind and waves you can't do this, but with today's south wind and no swell it was perfect. We swam around the west side of the island which had dramatic drop offs, deep cuts into the rocks and very clear water. We had lunch and headed back to Marina Cay where we anchored by the red buoy at 3:30 as all the moorings were taken. Garth, Sherry and Jacob took the dingy over to Trellis Bay, which is next to the airport, to pick up Jacob's wife Sally. We had dinner at the restaurant but had Sambuccas on the trampoline to check for meteors again, but again only a couple were spotted.

Lee Bay

23 April 2014
Tuesday morning we left Cane Garden Bay and sailed up to Monkey Point which took about 2 hours. As us usual there were huge schools of small fish there with lots of tarpons. After a long swim and some lunch, we motored over to Lee Bay on Great Camanoe Island about 45 min east. We anchored here with one other boat that arrived just before us. We went for a swim and the entire shoreline of the bay was covered by schools of fish. Later that night the spotlight reflected light from the eyes of dozens of tarpons that came in to feed. Sherry made up her fourth batch of amazing pork ribs to go with grilled pineapple, rice, Caesar salad, snap peas and carrots. The Leonids meteor shower was supposed to be visible so we took a glass of Sambucca up to the trampoline to watch but only a few were seen.

BVI Cane Garden Bay

22 April 2014
Monday morning we left Francis Bay and motored an hour up to Sopers Hole to clear customs back into the BVIs. After I cleared us and the boat in and paid $23, the ladies did some shopping onshore while others checked out the Pussers pub. We left around noon and sailed around to Cane Garden Bay, arriving around 2:30. Logan, Dylan, Britanie and I went into the beach and the boys rented stand up paddle boards while Garth, Sherry and Jacob dingied out to the reef for a snorkel. We had fun on the paddle boards for an hour and went into the beach bar where happy hour runs from 3 to 7 with $3 pain killers and run punch. We swam back out to the boat around 6:30 and watched the sun set over Jost Van Dyke while we BBQed chicken to go with Heather's peanut sauce with rice and beans. There were no waves at all and just a slight breeze making it a perfect anchorage.

Francis Bay Again

21 April 2014
We left the Marina Sunday morning around 10 after paying our $220 free. It was still blowing 20 knots so we motor sailed for an hour until we could set a starboard tack back to St John. Another great sail averaging well over 7 knots in 5 to 8 foot seas. We stopped for a snorkel at Whistle Key around noon and then motored over to Francis Bay and got a sheltered mooring just off the beach. Dylan and Logan took the dingy back to Cinnamon Bay for ice and everyone else did relaxed for the afternoon. We had BBQ steak with onions, mushrooms and grilled veggies and potatoes for dinner.
