Nostalgic Great Sandy Straits

This is a trip down memory lane. The last time we came across The Wide Bay Bar and into the Great Sandy Straits was 31 years ago. We were young, Mia was 8 and on Correspondense School. We had a Wolf O'Kell 38ft Ferro Cement Boat. The strongest memories were friend Ray, a single hander motoring up alongside us and throwing Mia Lollies into the cockpit AND our good friend John Karger going aground on Cinabar with Tigress going aground beside him BUT John decided to prop Cinabar upright on 2 Spinnaker Poles. MY GOODNESS that was scary. Tigress just laid over as you would!! 😁 The tied dried completely out and thank goodness all turned out OK

Extra:	Debbie and I have been sailing for about 30 years. In 1983 we set sail, together with Mia (our daughter) in a 38' ketch for what was to become a four year sabatical that took us from Sydney to Hong Kong. We were the true slow boat to China. We ended up spending about 15 years away from Australia, [...] Greg working in Advertising for BBDO International in Hong Kong, Malaysia and Japan. During that time we had a Tayana 42, Crystal Dancer, built in Taiwan and had it delivered to Hong Kong. After 4 years we sailed her to Kuala Lumpur Malaysia for our next posting with BBDO. We sold Crystal Dancer when we were transferred to Tokyo. Our daughter has now married and has 2 beautiful children, Jade and Lachlan. In May 2006 we took delivery of Volare in Longbeach California and spent 1 1/2 years sailing her back to Australia and eventually mooring her in Batemans Bay. We coincidentally live in Long Beach. We have just completed a 6 months owner/builder renovation of our beautiful Cottage and it is available for holiday let on www.stayz.com.au/68358. We're on the move again on Volare More
