Home Are the Sailors, Home From the Sea

20 December 2007
Debbie
We're in, we're safe. It's so exciting to be home in Sydney, what a fabulous city. All our cruising friends must try and get here. We know it well but it's still an awesome site to enter Sydney heads and motor/sail down the harbour past the Opera House and under the bridge.

We came through Sydney Heads at 16:30 yesterday afternoon, Thursday 20th Dec, 5 days before Christmas and ahead of schedule. As the photo says - we have travelled just under 8,300 miles since leaving Long Beach, California.

Our last day of sailing was brilliant. For once we had the current with us and from the night before we were doing speeds of 9 - 10.2 knots. We cracked a bottle of New Zealand Champagne as we came through the heads in memory of the great country we had left 8 days before. So we have tackled the Tasman and won - not so for Maximus the maxi yacht, who lost their keel during the same passage.

As soon as we connect to the internet, we'll post more photos of the trip and the awesome Tasman but this will be the final blog entry.

We hope you've enjoyed reading of our voyage as much as we have had doing it. We are home with mixed emotions - glad to be here with our families but sad that this Pacific Odyssey has come to a close.
