Day Two
19 March 2015 | Gulf Stream
Alan
6:29 am
We are in the Gulf Stream. Water temp is now 75 F. Winds are barely 15kts out of the N so the Stream is very well behave: good boy!!
It seems that it's going to be a nice day. We had a bunch of dolphins visiting us yesterday afternoon and swim with us at the bow as they like to do. And as they pass by the bow they twist on their side to be able to look at us.
Forecast is good except for tomorrow afternoon with winds from the South at 20 to 30 for a few hours. I think we'll just heave to and wait for them to clock and come back out of the North as they are schedule to do

So today has been a slow day. Our position is about 115nm East of Hatteras and a little south of it. We're probably out of the main part of the stream but have eddies and such. A little bit ago we all of a sudden got 1.5 kts in the nose for 15 minutes and it dropped somewhat to 0.8 kt of current in the nose. The eddies swirl around so you can't really predict their direction. The wind has continued to be really fickle like it's trying to chose a direction but cannot make up its mind: it shift then builds slowly to say 11 kts then blows beautifully for 10 minutes then all of a sudden drop to about zero for 5 minutes then rebuilds again from a different direction. At least the temp is nice and the water is warm . We're going to try and be somewhat more set in our watches now (nat 6-12 am and pm; and me the other one, 12-6).
OK dinner is Spanish rice and pork chops and I should start it now.
No other boats today other than hearing on the radio some warship telling some freighter to change direction and increase speed because they were firing low flying missiles! But that was far away, at least I hope.
I'll try to write you toward the end of my watches 6am and 6pm. We'll be mostly in the same time zone until Panama.
